Level 3 Maturity Result
Establishing Systematic Accessibility Practices
Based on your assessment, your organisation is at Level 3 of digital accessibility maturity. You’ve chalked up some real successes, but you’re still reacting to events. You are probably fighting fires and responding to complaints, risks and compliance mandates. You’ve developed more systematic approaches but still have room for greater integration and optimisation.
Organisations at Level 3 typically:
- Have identified where the risks of inaccessibility might be and are putting structures in place to mitigate those risks
- Recognise that a more consistent approach to accessibility is needed and might actively seek help to achieve this
- Undertake technical accessibility audits of their digital products
- Start to centralise their accessibility knowledge-base so everyone can use it
- Provide accessibility training to key staff roles
Key Areas for Improvement
To progress toward higher maturity levels, focus on:
- Improving consistency of accessibility practices across all projects
- Engaging more directly with users with disabilities for feedback
- Increasing accessibility training and making it role-specific on the one hand, and also available to new staff as they join the organisation
- Ensuring that accessibility advice is given in Style Guides and Brand Guidelines
- Ensuring that accessibility requirements are being included in procurement of new systems and equipment
- Building stronger connections between accessibility and broader business strategy
You’ve established good accessibility practices but you need to move to being more proactive around accessibility and stop responding to each issue. You need to make your practices more consistent, comprehensive, and strategically aligned.
