Knowledge and Skills Level 2 (4-7 points)
Developing Your Accessibility Expertise
Your assessment indicates your organisation is at Level 2 in the Knowledge and Skills dimension of accessibility maturity. Some training is provided but it is not coordinated and has to be requested by individual staff or teams, and in any case there is no expectation that accessibility training will be undertaken. Knowledge and skills have not been properly assessed though there is an understanding that this might be a good idea. This shows you’ve begun developing accessibility knowledge but still have significant room for growth.
Organisations at this level typically:
- Have pockets of accessibility knowledge, often concentrated in specific teams or roles
- Have started including accessibility requirements in some job descriptions
- Are starting to consider accessibility in performance evaluations
- Provide some basic accessibility information as part of onboarding
- Offer limited, role-based accessibility training
- Are starting to integrate accessibility into broader inclusion and diversity training
Key Opportunities
To develop stronger accessibility knowledge and skills:
- Build basic accessibility awareness more consistently across your organisation
- Make role-based accessibility training available to team members who want it. Ensure team members know they can request training
- Start a central hub where team members can easily access and share accessibility resources
- Formalise accessibility requirements in job descriptions for relevant roles
- Consider incorporating accessibility components in onboarding
- Strengthen accessibility’s presence in broader inclusion initiatives
You’ve made initial progress in building organizational knowledge. Now you can focus on expanding and formalizing these efforts to develop deeper expertise.
