Culture Level 2 (4-7 points)
Developing Your Accessibility Culture
Your assessment indicates your organisation is at Level 2 in the Culture dimension of accessibility maturity. There is some awareness, however any activities are probably uncontrolled or driven by a few passionate people that have little to no support. This shows you’ve begun incorporating accessibility into your organisational values but still have significant room for growth.
Organisations at this level typically:
- Have emerging awareness of accessibility across some parts of the organisation
- Have begun to recognise accessibility as a value, though not consistently
- Have some leadership involvement, though possibly limited to specific champions
- Have started including disability in diversity conversations
Key Opportunities
To develop a more mature accessibility culture:
- Work on getting Executive leadership and a supported statement of commitment
- Look to include disability as part of any DE&I policies and activities
- Start promoting digital accessibility as a core value across the organisation
- Recognise digital accessibility in documents such as Code of Conduct, performance reviews and professional development planning
- Expand awareness efforts to reach all parts of the organisation
- Begin explicitly including accessibility in some business strategies
You’ve laid the groundwork for an inclusive culture. Now you can focus on broadening and deepening these initial efforts.
